These are basically used in solid handling where the product handled is a powder, granular, lumpy. They are best suited when solid being handled is to  be contained when conveying unlike in belt conveyors or slat conveyors. Bucket Elevators help in reducing dusting and provide a rigid flange joints at inlet and outlet points. When you want to protect the material being conveyed from the atmosphere you can go for a Bucket Elevator. It has an inherent advantage over belt conveyors that it can lift the material in the vertical direction during conveying.

While handling explosive material these conveyors are handy as they can be purged with nitrogen. Various materials can be used as a Belt or Chain for making the Bucket  Elevators suit our requirements. They  can also be used at higher temperatures
